《纽约空地》由超过18公里长、超15米高、卷曲缠绕的铝管构成。该作与艺术家刚刚在英国皇家艺术学院举办的个展采用了相似的概念,葛姆雷在其中展出了另一件隶属于“空地项目”(Clearing Project)系列的作品,其循环往复、永无止境的结构与《纽约空地》在形式上产生了共鸣。葛姆雷将这一项目称为“空间中的绘画”,以此具象化了他对“物”与“场域”之间关系的思索。
